Federal Income Tax Offsets for Child Support

We are pleased to announce that on Jan. 4, 2025, President Biden signed the Supporting America’s Children and Families Act (H.R. 9076). The new law (1) authorizes tribal IV-D agencies to directly access federal tax information (FTI) and provides the same FTI access as states, and (2) allows state and tribal IV-D agencies to share all child support related FTI with contractors who operate and support their programs.

We are working closely with the IRS and Treasury’s Bureau of Fiscal Service on next steps to implement the new legislation.
